Mural theme:
A vision of our school. St Thomas Aquinas is a Catholic school based in Central Southland. To reflect the school spiritual values, the mural uses four boards shaped like church windows, with the children's art representative of stained glass, to allowing people a 'vision' or 'view' of the school, its students, culture, spirit and philosophy.

Background to mural creation:
The mural was created as a project to unite the school through art and to incorporate an inquiry unit looking at the school’s culture. It formed part of the school’s 'Arts Celebration' focus and it encouraged students to consider the school's mission vision, interpreting that and incorporating it into the mural. All students, regardless of whether they were artistic or not, were encouraged to contribute to the project and pick up a paintbrush. Apart from achieving a vibrant and colourful addition to the school environment, which the whole school can take pride in, they have also been delighted to have encouraged and inspired some enthusiastic new artists at their school.
