Mural theme:
The essence of our school.
Background to mural creation:
The old admin block was demolished which left an unattractive entrance. The mural was created to make the entranceway look attractive and inviting, conveying to the community and whanau who we are.
The design is a collaboration of designs suggested by students. The mural features the school logo, the Southern Alps, the Canterbury Plains and the school Whare. There are also references to the school’s Kowhai, Manukau, Te Kouka, Totara, Ngaio and Matai communities.
The Koru design beneath the Alps represents the rivers flowing and contributing to the school and community.
The two weaving panels that flank the mural were painted by students, members of the community and many staff. The colours woven through the two weavings represent the school whanau groups – Ross, Newton, Selwyn, Langdale, Trickett and Hill.
