Background to mural creation:
The mural was created to depict the journey that many people in the community are on. The design of the mural was drafted by three artists with input from many homeless and marginalised people that access the many and varied services of the 139 Club Inc. They wanted to outline that when you walk through the doors of the club there are many activities that you can be involved in, which are depicted in the mural in graphics and colour. These activities brighten up your life and give you support and empower you to leave the club in a much brighter light. More homeless and marginalised people were involved in the design and painting of the mural, which really enhanced their self esteem and feelings of being worthwhile.
