Background to mural creation:
The mural is around an alcohol related harm project the students were involve in. They have looked at influences and consequences on alcohol for young people. They wanted a positive message that does not look like it is advertising alcohol nor telling people what they should or shouldn't be doing.  The red arrow is poor decision making around alcohol, Is it worth it? is an alcohol project by ALAC, this has been graffited on the prison wall. The green arrow leads to university, jobs, money and eventually the world. The stars represent Matariki and the proverb "Matariki ki tua o nga whetu" "Matariki - search beyond the stars". The proverb encourages artists to seek excellence in their work.
