Background to mural creation:
In terms 2 and 3 the school ran a class every Friday morning for an hour and a half for both senior and junior students to help create the school mural. Two parents who enjoy painting came in to work with the students.
The students wanted the mural to reflect the land that the school sits on, which was a swamp in the earlier years, and as a Kura Kaupapa Maori they also wanted to include all the native trees, shrubs and birds from the region.
