Background to mural creation:
The inspiration for the mural came from the year five and six class winning a competition run by the New Zealand Seafood Fishing Industry Board. With their prize money they hired the services of ex-art advisor My Ray Stoddart to assist us to plan and paint the mural. The fish motif represents both the money won from the competition and fits the area in which the mural has been placed – the school swimming pool. They also had the assistance of Egmont Seafoods, a local seafood processing plant who supplied us with the fish, which the students drew.
