Striped table

Turn a plain old wooden table into a quirky feature with this two-tone striped combination of Resene purples.

Fun with furniture with Mark Rayner - Project 10

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: an old wooden table, 25mm low tack masking tape, paintbrushes and sandpaper. Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer and Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Blue Gem and Resene Lavender.

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen tinted to Resene Ayers Rock.

Other ideas: Try a warm grey combination using alternating stripes of Resene Emerge and Resene Innocence.

Step 1

Clean the table and lightly sand the old paint to provide a ‘key’.
Step 2

Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to the table and allow two hours to dry.
Step 3

Apply two coats of Resene Blue Gem to the legs and underside of the table, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 4

Apply two coats of Resene Lavender to the table top, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 5

Mask off a 25mm strip along opposite ends of the table, as shown, and apply one coat of Resene Blue Gem to the masked strips. Allow to dry, apply a second coat, and then immediately remove the masking tape. Allow to dry for two hours.

Mask off evenly spaced 25mm strips across the table top, as shown.
Step 7
Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Blue Gem to the masked strips and allow to dry.
Step 8
Step eight
Apply a second coat of Resene Blue Gem to the masked strips and then immediately remove the masking tape. Allow to dry for two hours.
