Habitat plus - two-tone magic

A handsome mix of panelled vehicle gate, plaster columns and weatherboard panels, this design could herald any style of home modern - traditional or anything in between.

Cleverly created to cope with the slope of the road by Wooden Gates and Fences, its various materials cry out for a multi-tonal scheme. One of the easiest ways to smarten up a fence or wall, or to give it a different look or character, is to paint it. All the better if the style of fence allows you the creative freedom to use not just one colour, but two.

Top tip: Create a foolproof neutral scheme by using the Resene Whites & Neutrals collection. This hugely popular range features many of the complex neutrals formulated by Resene and shows them in different strengths. Use the varying tones of one colour for the various parts of your landscaping feature or home exterior.

Four colour panel
A clean light look gate and panels
1. This clean, light look is created with the sharp yellow-white of Resene Rice Cake for the gate and panels, set against the pale leathery beige of Resene Half Cougar on the plaster columns.

2.A tonal scheme off the Resene Whites & Neutrals range, this uses the shingly beige-brushed grey of Resene Double Rakaia for the panels while Resene Quarter Rakaia blends beautifully for the plaster columns.
A darker green based gate and panels
3.This more brooding look has a deep green-based masculine edge. The gate and panels are in Resene Talisman, a deep olive tone, which is earthy and strong. They are then framed by the plaster columns in the mid-toned green-edge taupe of Resene Pale Oyster to create a more contrasting scheme.
A smokey lavender toned gate and panels
4.As a fun departure from the more commonly seen neutrals, this fence is now resplendent in the smoky sultry lavender tones of Resene Mobster. To cool down the look, Resene Greywacke is a dreamy misty grey. This would be the perfect entry to a pretty vintage style home or a French garden overflowing with grey-leafed plants and purple flowers.
