Wonderful wood

Feature walls have previously been established as a bold colour choice or wallpaper that speaks to the room by creating a focal point.

Placing a focal point in your room doesn’t always have to follow these lines however and more often these days we are seeing the beauty of wood grain specified in interior design trends.

Take a simple yet beautiful wood panel and treat with Resene Colorwood Touch Wood to create a feature wall with a difference. Wood used on interior walls brings the outside in, creating a harmonious natural feeling to your home. Resene wood stains bring another level of elegance and personality to your space.

Before you launch into creating your wooden feature wall, test out which Resene Colorwood stain is the best for your room and your wood base. Trial a few different shades on your offcuts to see how the wood responds to the stain and the light in the room. The base colour of the wood will have an impact on how the tint in the stain looks. Different woods will also respond differently to the stain. MDF and particle boards will absorb the colour more readily, while other high density timbers will soak up less stain and may take two coats to absorb the colour.

Don’t feel restricted to just using Resene Colorwood stains on your wood surfaces. This table has been artfully treated with Resene Tobacco Brown to create a stylish finish. Mixing Resene FX Paint Effects Medium into a small amount of Resene Sour Dough and using a slightly damp sponge this mix was applied to the table roughly, occasionally wiping areas to soften the surface during the paint application. To create the random effect an application of Resene Tobacco Brown was used, building up layers randomly across the table to give this slightly mottled effect. After leaving this to dry, the initial Resene Sour Dough mixture with Resene FX Paint Effects Medium was used to layer colour and texture randomly. To finish, while this was still slightly damp, a large Resene paintbrush was used in a broad sweeping motion to soften any hard edges the layered paint may have left on the table top.
