Welcome in

Clare and Dave wanted a home that melted back into the surrounding bush, and a home that reflected their casual welcoming style. Building on a limited budget they were determined to make their house more environmentally friendly than the old bungalows they were used to.

They sacrificed the more standard carpet and tiles for solar hot water and extra thick walls, filled with 50% more insulation. They sealed their floors with Resene Uracryl and love the colours that emerged from the raw concrete, plus with two busy kids that love to play in the mud it is extra forgiving.

They have used Resene products everywhere, transforming Trademe finds such as the bedside tables in the master bedroom and the lampshade in the lounge on the way. Dave and Clare used the Resene website to look for interesting colour combinations - the Resene Flourish they used on the little garage sale table in the lounge is the result of advice from the website.

The palette of colour they have used is extensive:

• The family bathroom and laundry features Resene Limerick, Resene Alabaster and Resene Half Napa. The children’s room features Resene Rice Cake, Resene Kumutoto, Resene Hopbush and Resene Classic Rose.
• The hall features Resene Napa and a gallery of children’s artwork.
• The exterior features Resene Limed Gum and Resene Driftwood wood stain, with Resene Ironsand and a front door in Resene Dynamite.

With so many changes you’d expect that it took them months to finish, but they impressively managed to paint their home in a weekend with the help of family and friends.
