Bringing the beach home

Outside, the Friis family home is striking in Resene CoolColour™ Enigma with Resene Black White on the joinery. They chose this combination as they wanted a beachy bach feel for their home and it worked well with the big Washingtonian palm tree which has likely stood in the yard since the house was built in the 1930s.

Inside they chose Resene Athens Grey for the main hall, lounge dining and kitchen with Resene Bianca for the joinery. The great thing about Resene Athens Grey is that it provides a great backdrop for a colour photo frame wall which is in the hallway and the wallpaper and back effect in the dining room. In the dining room they also used Resene Bianca and whitewashed the old family dining table.

For their secret bathroom (which is behind the Resene Bianca painted bookcase and secret door) they used Resene Sweet As. They had seen this colour in Your Home & Garden magazine and thought it would work well on their secret bathroom which they wanted to have an interesting feel. As there was a bit left over, it was also used on a retro piece of furniture bought from Trademe.

For the bedrooms they used Resene Quarter Ziggurat. It was originally an adult's bedroom, but is now home to one of the children and they've found it makes a great boy's bedroom colour. The new master bedroom also features Resene Quarter Ziggurat with a Resene yellow (similar to Resene Wild Thing) on the chair. It was an old family chair that they wanted to keep so they painted it to fit in with the new look.
