All the Wharehoka family wanted was to change the flashings on the lounge and bedroom windows because water dripped in every time it rained. Then they discovered the flashings were strips of tin and the windows were rotten. They also found there were no studs holding the windows and the surrounding weatherboards were rotten, meaning they had to do some repair and construction work.

They had no north wall during that winter. They couldn't find any suitable sash windows, so they had them made. Then they disturbed rats (which they didn't know they had) that chewed through the plastic plumbing and sprung leaks in the dining room, kitchen, stairwell, their son's bedroom, both upstairs and downstairs bathrooms and half the office. Decision... replumb the entire house with copper.

By this point, only the dining room and one bedroom of five were liveable. A bathroom visit meant a trip down the road to the public toilets!

After a somewhat tricky start, they now have three exterior walls painted Resene Santas Grey on the weatherboards with Resene White windows and trim, Resene Gun Powder on the verandah and bridge decking and Resene Pohutukawa on exterior doors, the chimney and bridge.

Inside, Resene Code Red is dramatic in the lounge, with Resene Pohutukawa in the master bedroom, Resene Lush in the second bedroom, Resene Flashpoint and Resene Black White in the main bathroom, Resene Nero, Resene Black White and Resene Flash Point in their son's bedroom, Resene Black White in the second bathroom and Resene Seeker and Resene Black White in the office. The list of rooms is nearly complete with just Resene Ayers Rock to be applied in the dining room and Resene Alo Alo in the kitchen.
