Capturing all day sun on a busy corner, the distinctly different ‘Pensacola’ was built around 1945 by the husband of a Hawkes Bay earthquake survivor. To honour the home's Art Deco roots, the interior colour palette was inspired by the works of 1930s ceramics artist Clarice Cliff. The bold four-colour combination of burnt orange, sunshine yellow, ruby red and lime green, enhanced with off white and gloss black, creates a striking backdrop for the family's collection of Art Deco furniture and collectibles, both original and reproduction.
Upon arrival, the visitor is welcomed by curved walls and original stucco plasterwork, accentuated with a metallic Egyptian style border sourced from the United States.
Original rimu flooring complements the bold exotic colour scheme, contributing to the home’s overall sense of warmth.
Black and pure white is the theme for the family bathroom. Inspired by Art Deco's clean lines and geometrical patterns, it was the family’s first foray into DIY tiling.
