Picturing a picket fence

Shortly after moving in they started working through the house knocking out walls, putting in a new kitchen and doing up the bathrooms. The interior walls were all painted with Resene Half Tea, while the ceilings, trims and windows were done with Resene Black White. This was designed to take advantage of a tip they were given that having a tint of black in the white paint stops it from going yellow.

After two years away they returned to the villa and it was time to get onto the outside. It then took a couple of years to prep and paint the outside with weather challenges and sports injuries. Once the prep was done they applied Resene primer before finishing it off with Resene Bone White.

Kelly had always loved an old house in Havelock North so she knocked on the door to ask what the colour of the exterior was and that is how they chose Bone White. The funny thing is the lady at the house had got this colour door knocking also.

Kelly has spruced up a few bits of furniture to give them a new lease of life. All these bits were first painted with Resene primer then Resene colours. A dark set of drawers with cane baskets became a lovely fresh white using Resene Black White and visitors ask regularly if the furniture is new.

She purchased a cheap mirror from Kmart but wasn’t sold on the colour so that became Resene Black White also. A big old clock which no longer worked was pulled apart and is now a cool piece of artwork above the master bed and all it cost was a few Resene testpots of paint (Resene Smiles, Resene Aqua, Resene Grey Chateau or Resene Black White plus the Resene Black White they already had.

For their son they cut out the letters of his name and painted them with Resene Azure, Resene Gunsmoke and Resene Black White. The letters of their daughter’s name were painted Resene Black White and put on a board which was painted with Resene Black White and Resene Aqua.

With the inside and outside of the house all painted, the next project for Kelly was to try and convince her husband that a picket fence was needed to complete the exterior. This was successful and now a 21 metre long picket fence, each picket primed with Resene primer then painted in Resene Black White, decorates the boundary.

To finish off the front of the house the side corrugated iron fences and the front porch were painted with Resene Grey Friars. Still to come is a new roof in Grey Friars.
