Bit by bit

Sofie’s family moved into a country home, which had great bones and character but the entire home was painted in one colour - mustard cream! They had barely moved in when Sofie started painted one room at a time while her youngest had their afternoon nap. She couldn't wait to get started but quickly found it would take years to go around the house to paint everything.

Lounge tv room

Bit by bit over the last years Sofie has painted each room bringing it into the 21st century. First the living room, the TV room then the kitchen cabinets, the oldest kids’ bedrooms and recently the laundry, hallway and her youngest girl’s room. This took many trips to the Resene ColorShop, umming and arring, deciding what would work best with the character of the house and the country surroundings. Sofie wanted it to be a modern, family friendly and robust environment all could enjoy and be proud of. This can be quite a balancing act at times.

The kitchen was a 90s blue kitchen but because the cupboards were in great condition, Sofie decided just to paint them and add new handles and a new benchtop. The cupboards are now painted in Resene Triple Concrete and the kitchen/living room Resene White Pointer.

Kitchen and laundry

Warm, inviting, earthy colours were planned for the TV/family room, summed up perfectly with Resene Perfect Taupe with a feature wall in Resene Double Mondo.

The laundry needed a fresher approach, achieved with Resene Escapade and Resene Half Merino. The laundry is in a narrow hallway with a set of what were old wooden sliding cupboards painted in black paint.

Girls and boys room
Master bedroom

Her oldest girl’s room/guest room is painted in fresh Resene Nepal colour with Resene Alabaster skirting boards. It is fresh, neutral and simple, so can easily double as a girly room or be converted easily into a guest room.

Her son’s bedroom has playful, bold colours. With his bed under the sloping roof, it was a perfect way to create an enclosing and cosy space, with Resene Blue Night and Resene Golden Dream.

The last of the children's bedrooms is light, playful and girly. Sofie used several different colours on different walls and did one feature wall opposite the entry to the room to give it a wow effect using Resene Nepal, Resene Pretty In Pink, Resene Shark and a light grey she had mixed.

Thanks to Sofie.
