It’s not every day that you get to be creative in your own home, so when Kylie and Brent bought their commercial property that could house them and their small business, they decided that the building was different enough to warrant an interior that was not often found in a usual living space.
Together they have renovated the 310 square metre building for 3.5 months and predict that they have another 6 months or so of projects before they will be happy to rest. Every surface inside and out requires a new coat of paint to refresh it.
For now, they have just finished the living area; a lounge that consists of a 3 metre high stud, a skylight and a block firewall to separate them from the neighbours. It's on this fire wall they have hand painted with sponges, brushes and a roller a fiery red brick wall. They picked their colours by holding Resene colour charts to a red brick wall picture they found online while on their way to the store. 'Where did that wall come from?' and 'how did you do that?' are the most common reactions from our visitors, it's fair to say this wall has made its mark and is a total talking point to anyone that has walked through the door.
Painting the walls required multiple colours, using Resene Mortar then randomly rolled and sponged a basecoat of Resene Smoke Tree, Resene Kamikaze and Resene Tall Poppy. Once the basecoat had dried, they dry rolled a combination of Resene Tall Poppy and Resene Red Planet, then painted the ceiling and surrounding walls Resene Black.
Thanks to Kylie and Brent.
