West inspiration

Kathrin’s project started with the idea of building a reading nook above the bed in the master bedroom which could also be used as a spare bed (or play area) for the children if they didn’t want to sleep in their own beds.

Art inspired colours

When she thought about a colour for the wall she was inspired by a photo collection of West Coast beaches that hangs in the bedroom. Kathrin decided to go for a dark blue like the sea in the late afternoon/early evening sun. She went to the Petone Resene ColorShop and was glad to see the toys so that her young boys would be entertained as she suspected it would take a while to choose just the right colour. But no, Kathrin looked at the different blue colour charts and knew immediately which one to go for: Resene Surfs Up!

The now painted wall looks amazing and the whole family loves it!

Reading nook

After painting the wall it wasn’t finished though as Kathrin quickly realised that they would need some kind of barrier/railing as the reading nook is quite high. An easy solution was to recycle pallets to form the barrier. Kathrin took cut pallet wood into different lengths and went back to the Resene ColorShop to choose colours for them, again inspired by the photos. Yet again it did not take long to choose: more Resene Surfs Up with Resene Mariner and Resene Allports, and using the extra Resene White that was left at home.
