Ready to play

From a desk to study to a kiddy's best buddy… you can prepare your kids soon enough for real life because real life comes much faster than most parents think. Kids like to help with household chores when they get introduced to it in a playful manner. What better way to do that by giving them their own kitchen to hone their household skills?

Unfortunately most play kitchens are either entirely made of plastic, of flimsy material or are in the wrong scale for them to play properly on.

Heike turned an old solid desk into a play kitchen by reducing the height to bring it down to a comfortable height for pre-schoolers to play, before painting the body in bold colours – Resene Simply Red, Resene Rice Cake, Resene All Black, Resene Morning Glory and Resene Silver Aluminium with drawers in Resene Juicy, Resene Morning Glory and Resene Koru – to make it cheerful with retro Resene Morning Glory for the fridge.

To add more interest Heike also painted some areas with Resene FX Blackboard Paint and used Resene Silver Aluminium metallic to make the sink and stove more authentic. The rest of the top is painted in Resene Rice Cake. The basin is a stainless steel bowl set into a silver painted piece of textured wallpaper cut into an oval. The hot plates are cut down place mats. The tap is made of dowel and wooden profile.

Once the painting was done, playtime started!
