Better and better

In its never-ending quest to improve products, the Resene technical team has recently updated Resene Lustacryl and Resene Woodsman Decking Oil Stain. The new Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel is faster to dry and easier to apply, speeding up application time and giving a better quality finish. It’s available in a huge range of Resene colours, including Resene CoolColours for exterior projects.

Resene Woodsman Decking Oil Stain has moved to a new waterborne alkyd version, with improved foot traffic and weathering durability. It penetrates the timber better, reducing the risk of tracking to help it keep looking good for longer. It’s available in a wide range of exterior stain colours, including Resene CoolColour options.

te reo clock

Tick tock

Or rather tock tohu, as they say in te reo Maori. This cool Te Reo Clock, designed and made by Inscribe Design, has proven to be a timeless piece (excuse the pun). Made of bamboo and dipped in a range of Resene colours, this one is in Resene Riptide. See www.inscribedesign.co.nz.

Stronger solar lights

Solar lights get brighter

Europe’s best selling solar lighting range is now available exclusively at Palmers. Smart Solar has a long heritage in the design and manufacture of high-quality solar powered lighting. The premium Super Bright range has a higher lumen, which means the lights are brighter than regular solar lights, and are manufactured with high quality stainless steel for a great finish. See in store at Palmers, www.palmers.co.nz.

Modern light fittings

Grow with green

Green is one of the go-to colours this year, from soft sages through to stronger folate greens. The green tones in this new wallpaper are softened by a touch of blue for a sea-green look – pair it with Resene Paradise. The pattern features delicate stylised botanical motifs that cross the style divide between contemporary and classic. That means you can use it anywhere. This wallpaper (design GP5920) is new to the Resene Wallpaper Collection, available at your local Resene ColorShop.

Virtual design made easy

Sometimes, all you need is a guiding hand to steer you in the right design direction and not the full-blown service of an interior designer. Clkspace now offers a virtual interior design experience where you’ll be guided to the right Resene colours for your space as well as the best furnishings at the best price, from the comfort of your own home. It’s a three-step process: tell them about your space and your preferences; receive your Clkspace Design Package (like the example shown here) then shop online for the items. See www.clkspace.com.

Paint a marble candlestick

Easy DIY in motion

They say the most common phrase typed into YouTube is ‘how to’ and here at habitat we’re keen to be part of the solution – by showing you how to use lots of lovely paint in creative and cool ways.

We’ve been making a series of videos called Create with paint showing you how to make and paint all sorts of things – from glow-in-the-dark ‘moons’, to printed linen, faux marbled candlesticks and easy glass art. See these and more at www.habitatbyresene.com/habitattv or at www.youtube.com/ habitatbyresene.

Frameless gas fireplace

Less is more

Escea’s latest release, the DS1150 gas fireplace, gives you less of everything, to give you more than ever before. Visually, the fireplace has less frame and unnecessary detail so that you can focus on the flames. It has less wasted heat with a higher efficiency rating, and less depth to give you a sleek fireplace that uses a smaller footprint in your home.

The DS1150 is truly frameless – where the wall ends, the glass begins. At more than a metre wide, it makes a stunning wall feature, whether single or double sided. See www.escea.com.

The right white

Colour trends may shift from blue to pink, to green and teal and back again, but what is less obvious is how much changing tastes also affect white and neutral paint colours too. That’s why Resene regularly updates its popular The Range whites and neutrals fandeck.

The latest version of the fandeck includes a selection of new colours and introduces favourites from other ranges to give you the best of the best in one handy fandeck. With the popularity of grey, the range of grey hues has also been expanded.

The new fandeck is available from your Resene ColorShop while the individual whites and neutrals palette cards will also be updated this year.

Persian inspired fireplaces

From faraway lands

With Persian influences and modern interpretations of textured weaves, the Cappadocia collection makes recreating the looks you might find on travels to faraway lands effortless. Become your own global collector with this inspiring range. Featuring eight distinct designs, each carrying its own signature look, the collection brings a full breadth of texture allowing you to create an individual statement be it sophisticated casual, rich urban opulence or a pared-back organic. See www.warwick.co.nz.

window treatments

Well angled

Do you have a tricky window to dress? A new hardware system on Blocco honeycomb blinds allows the blinds to function normally no matter what angle they are installed. The blind also has a full four-sided channel frame to provide a light stop on both sides. This feature is particularly useful where total room darkening is required but also gives a very neat and tidy finish to the blind.

Blocco honeycomb blinds have excellent insulation, they look good, are good value and are easy to install and operate (manual or motorised). They are available in a selection of decorative blockout or light-filtering fabrics. See www.window-treatments.co.nz.

wine barrel planters

Wine barrels reinvented

These original oak wine barrels are imported from Europe – home to some of the oldest wineries on earth – and are available through Palmers stores. Growing in containers is an ideal solution for those of us living on smaller sections and in apartments, and lets us enjoy citrus and subtropical plants by moving the plants under cover or inside during winter. The barrels are perfect for growing ornamental trees, spring bulbs, small shrubs, dwarf fruit trees or vegetables. See in store at Palmers, www.palmers.co.nz.

Childrens toys made in new zealand

Play time

Forever the appreciators of a good strong colour, kids are in for a treat with these handcrafted toys. For those who like things that go ‘vroom’, these Wooden MX bikes are a winner. They come in five Resene colours or you can request your own. They’re made by All Abuzz at www.allabuzz.co.nz.

And for the little Flintstones in all of us, these gemstones are a quirky take on the normal play block. They’re made by Deans Workshop and painted in colours from the Resene KidzColour range; find them at www.felt.co.nz.

Wallpaper

Geo goes subtle

Nature remains a rich source of inspiration for interior design. A new range of designs in the Resene Wallpaper Collection preserves natural structures and combines them with playful geometric motifs, like this subtle herringbone pattern (design MA3003). By using a range of sheen levels within the pattern, the play of light is key. The designs appear to be constantly in motion, as they are in nature. Available at your local Resene ColorShop.

Colour your taps

Tap into your finish

These Wall Mount Basin Mixers are a new addition to the Eclipse range from Voda. Available in three colourways (Chrome, Black, Chrome/Black) they give a timeless look, combining softened edges with contemporary flair.

Wall mounted basin mixers are an ideal way to maximise the use of the vanity top and save on space at the same time – especially good if you have a small bathroom. Suitable for all pressures, these mixers are a great way to update an existing bathroom or give the wow factor to a new space. Visit www.vodaplumbingware.co.nz.

Fantastic fabric

Woven history

Classic and trend-driven at the same time, Heirloom, the new release collection from Sekers, brings together five designs that are a celebration of the history of textiles. Mixing embroideries with prints, as well as a versatile plain and an enticing sheer, there is a fabric for all aspects of interior decorating. The colours are a real feature, incorporating a soft sea foam blue-green, indigo blue, daffodil yellow, charcoal and taupe neutrals, and a lavender, all right on trend for 2018. For stockists see www.sekers.co.nz or call 0800 109 010.

Marley water diverter

Tap into free water

The thought of being able to get water for free is far too good to pass up. The Marley Twist® is a compact rainwater diverter that gives you a secondary source of water by turning a single downpipe into a tap. It connects to a small collection tank via any standard hose fitting and is designed for tanks up to 1000 litres. Perfect for watering the garden, topping up the pool, general cleaning or emergency use. Available from leading building and plumbing merchants. See www.marley.co.nz.

Top of the colour pops

Two classic whites top the list of most popular Resene paint colours yet again, with Resene Alabaster being nudged off the top spot by Resene Black White. Chances are you will have seen many of these colours already adorning many walls. These colours share a common trait – they are all very versatile neutrals that are easy to dress up, or dress down, in a colour scheme by adding other features and accents.

The Resene whites and neutrals A4 colour chart is often the best place to start if you’re looking for a good range of popular neutral options without being overwhelmed with too many choices. If you decide you like a colour but would like to see other variants, use the individual whites and neutrals palette cards or The Range Whites & Neutrals fandeck. Resene Pitch Black is from the Resene Exterior wood stains colour chart and can be used outdoors in the Resene Woodsman range or indoors in Resene Colorwood wood stain. You can try out all these colours using Resene testpots.

Paint your wooden jewellery

Well strung

If you thought paint was only good for decorating your walls, think again. Heaven to Betsy’s wooden beaded jewellery is hand-painted in Resene paint, then strung in a variety of styles to take you from casual to classy. See their online store at www.felt.co.nz.

Marley water diverter

Fashion collides

If one wallpaper is responsible for the collision of two of this season’s decorative fashion elements, it’s this. Deep dusky purple, and an oversized tropical botanic motif – what’s not to love? The wallpaper is new to the Resene Wallpaper Collection, (design 609318), available at Resene ColorShops.
