How to makeover your fruit bowl

Create with paint! Projects from habitat by Resene

Is your fruit bowl looking a bit drab? Do you love that timber look but feel it needs something else?

Why not add fun Resene colours for a fresh fruit bowl look that will encourage everyone to reach for their favourite fruit.

You will need

Instructions

  1. Roughly sand the bowl to provide a ‘key’ for the paint. Place the masking tape in your desired pattern over the bowl and into the interior.
  2. Apply a coat of Resene Acrylic Undercoat. Leave to dry. The undercoat will help the topcoats achieve their full colour. You can apply the Resene testpots direct to the bowl if you prefer but you may need an extra coat.
  3. Then use your chosen colours in blocks around the bowl, leaving some clear so that the timber shows through. Leave to dry then apply a second coat if necessary. You can finish timber areas in clear Resene Aquaclear to protect the wood and make it easier to clean later.

Step 2

Top tip:  If your bowl is in very poor condition you may be best to paint all of it. For an antiqued look apply your first coat of paint, then apply Resene FX Crackle before applying your topcoat. The Resene FX Crackle will shrink exposing some of the basecoat colour.
