Pink grows up

This delicious living room has a softly Californian retro vibe while using a very up-to-date colour – millennial pink, as represented by Resene Soothe. An archway, a la 70s hacienda maybe, is painted in Resene Avalanche, while the clean white floor is painted in cool Resene Alabaster.

Accessories are kept minimal with just a coffee table or two, painted in Resene Alabaster and Resene Escapade, and a chunky artisan looking vase painted in Resene Alabaster. A handful of palm leaves adds a tropical touch, while a long lie-on-me sofa and oversized art print finish the room. A curved pendant lamp, updated with Resene Alabaster, echoes the shape of the painted arch.

Use military blues and graphic lines to balance pinks.

Spring into green

This bedroom is a nod to this season’s love of the colour green and a new way to use stripes to create a feature wall: from top, Resene Travertine, Resene Miso and Resene Nirvana with a skirting in Resene Fawn Green. A lattice effect on the headboard brings added interest and texture, painted in Resene Fawn Green and Resene Miso. The look is paired with warm, natural tones and textures, from the rattan chair to a cosy throw. For a fresh spring or summer vibe, the sage green bedlinen is topped with a touch of pink in the patterned coverlet and pillowcase, and a small vase painted in Resene Alpaca. A peg stool in Resene Coconut Cream is a simple bedside table. The shelf is in Resene China Ivory.

Of sunsets and diamonds

Not too long ago this mellow room would likely have been awash in millennial pinks but here there’s a subtle shift away from pink towards peaches and nudes. And why use just one colour when you can use a few by way of this striking diamond feature wall – Resene Tequila, Resene Just Right, Resene Alpaca and Resene Cashmere? Such a dramatic, impactful shape can fall into the trap of becoming a bit overwhelming to the eye. However, painted in tonal shades, it creates a beautiful and modern backdrop.

The scheme is further softened by adding lots of natural textures to the look, from fringed cushions to macramé wall hangings. Finish off with flooring and furniture painted in natural tones, such as Resene Umber White (floor) and Resene Bone (coffee table).
