Spring 2020 colour trends

From Habitat – colour trends with Resene

Pretty in pink

It’s a well-known fact that soft pink light is highly flattering, so it’s not so surprising that it makes a great colour choice for a modern boudoir. In this space, the wall behind the make-up station is painted in the peachy blossom pink of Resene Sakura to bring that radiant glow while the crystalline grey of Resene Loblolly in the wardrobe area softly retreats. Give this gorgeous duo a modern edge with Resene Mercury on the floor, Resene Half Black White on the desk and team them with metallic accents for ultimate glamour. To give your walls a subtly textured look similar to crushed velvet, brush on Resene FX Paint Effects Medium tinted to a slightly different hue than your base. Resene FX Paint Effects Medium tinted with Resene Quarter Blanc gives this wall in Resene Sakura textural depth while Resene FX Paint Effects Medium tinted with Resene Half Gull Grey transforms the Resene Loblolly wall in the wardrobe.

Take your time, Resene FX Paint Effects Medium dries slower than standard paint, so you have longer to work on the effect you’re after

Other colours to try with powdery pinks – icy blues, creamy whites or dusky reds.

Natural attraction

When it comes to creating a welcoming, cosy bedroom, it’s hard to go past soft neutrals and warming earthy tones. The soft blush cream hue of Resene Eighth Canterbury Clay lines the walls in this space. It’s a character neutral, a colour with soul that is much more intriguing than a typical true neutral, which can end up looking flat or cold. Easy on the eyes, it’s the perfect base to start layering other soft earthy tones on top, such as the tall vase in Resene Beethoven, the floor in Resene Eighth Joss, the Resene Twine side table and the Resene Sour Dough bedhead. Combine these friendly neutrals with natural textures such as the rattan rug, pendant and toi toi print for an inviting look steeped in warmth. Try the Resene Whites & Neutrals collection for a range of easy to live with hues.

New life

Blue has long been touted as the best hue for bathrooms. And when it’s applied in a tonal colour palette, the result is a balanced, harmonious space. The trick to creating a cohesive palette of soothing blues is ensuring that your chosen hues all have the same undertone. The array of dusty denim blues on the floor, Resene Raven, Resene Half Raven, Resene Gull Grey, Resene Regent Grey and Resene Kensington Grey, embrace a ‘perfectly imperfect’ aesthetic by repainting repaired or imperfect floorboards in a number of similar hues to create a unique tonal look that’s full of visual texture. Contrast is another key element in a tonal colour scheme, brought in through the screen in Resene Indian Ink, the chair in Resene Breathless and the eye-catching vanity in Resene Bermuda Grey.
