A fence transformation with Resene Woodsman Wood Oil Stain

A wooden fence is transformed with Resene Woodsman Wood Oil Stain
This small bach has a large surrounding fence made of rough sawn pine. The fence had previously been stained with a green stain and was covered in moss, mould and lichen.

The first step was to saturate the fence using Resene Moss & Mould Killer. This is a very strong moss and mould treatment as it has a higher concentration of sodium hypochlorite – the active ingredient – compared to many other common moss and mould treatment options.

As the timber was rough sawn waterblasting was the most effective surface preparation method. It was waterblasted using a 2400 psi machine to remove the old stain and contaminants from the surface. A relatively wide fan was used to avoid overly damaging the timber.

NB Waterblasting is not recommended on painted timber weatherboards or rough sawn Cedar. Waterblasting on timber must always be done with caution to avoid damage to the timber.

Effective surface preparation using Resene Moss & Mould Killer

The next step was to stain the fence using Resene Woodsman Wood Oil Stain in Resene Pitch Black. A heavy first coat was applied to all the surfaces and a second lighter coat to the leading edge and faces of the timber fence.

As the timber was very mouldy and in poor condition, solventborne Resene Woodsman Wood Oil Stain was used. Resene Woodsman Wood Oil Stain is ideal for degraded timber as it soaks in further than most waterborne stains and the solvents help kill any residual mould spores or areas missed during the preparation steps.

The finished fence has helped to transform the look of the property.
