Museum of Contemporary Art, NSW
The installation was created as an immersive space so colours needed to be bright and engaging.
Samsung Electric Playground was part of Sydney’s Vivid festival. The display showcased the best features of the new Galaxy S10, where visitors were able to unleash their inner child through a spectrum of fun-packed playful activities in a giant illuminated playground.
As a highlight of the Galaxy Studio, George Rose was invited to be Australia’s first ‘Artist in Residence’ where she created an immersive art experience.
Participants could try the Galaxy S10’s ultrawide angle camera to capture panoramic photos equivalent to what the naked eye observes. The space designed made for the perfect Instagram worthy shot. George was able to bring the purpose-built space to life by creating an immersive experience through her art, that’s playful, bright and colourful – a true celebration of Vivid. George’s solution took inspiration from the surrounding Sydney harbour as the installation was located at the nearby MCA.
The largest festival in the country that celebrates ideas, music and light shows is Vivid Sydney – staged by Destination NSW to entice travellers to visit Sydney during winter. Vivid takes place specifically around the Sydney Harbour. The installation was created as an immersive space so colours needed to be bright and engaging. The key ingredient to the idea was keeping in mind the end use – the fact that the Samsung model needed to be used to capture the experience.
If the walls were stretched along one area, it would equate to 20+ metres in length. This full area was finished in Resene Lumbersider low sheen waterborne paint in a captivating palette of Resene Bird Flower, Resene California, Resene Malibu, Resene Princess, Resene Riptide, Resene Smitten and Resene Black.
This project is part of a body of work that won the Resene Total Colour Visual Art Award. The judges said "an incredible body of work, bold interpretations and colour palettes bring streetscapes and public spaces to life in a true celebration of colour and artistry. The works are so over scaled to suit each environment. With an underlying style, the art is reinvented with each brief so that each work truly shines on its own. Harnessing an enviable eye for colour, the colour palettes and proportions are beautifully and brilliantly intertwined."
