children’s bathroom

Cambridge

The inspiration came from Juliet’s son’s artwork (aged 10 at the time), the bubble pictures and his pottery fish, using the burnt orange/red colour in the bubble and the pottery fish as the accent colour. The bathroom needed to be bright but fun.

A neutral background is used for the walls finished in warm white Resene Quarter Rice Cake using Resene Room Velvet low sheen solventborne paint. The classic staggered subway tiles give it an old but fresh feel and the Resene Black in Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss painted beading finishes it off nicely giving it a clean line. The black is repeated in the framing of the artwork, the window latches, the mosaic tiles, the round mirror which copies the round bubble shape and the robe/towel hooks are also black mimicking the round shape. The chocolate Cedar used for the shelf above the bath and in the alcove add warmth to the bathroom. The black mosaics on the shower floor and the bottom shelf follow through the black used in the bathroom and adds variation.

The bathroom was a complete new build because of the design of the renovated bungalow. Floorboards came from an old gymnasium in Rotorua.

Resene Grenadier was used to brighten the little house that sits on the shelf and the stool. The same colours are repeated in the fabric on the chair from Madder and Rouge. The ceiling and wood work are in Resene White which gives a lovely crisp fresh feel. The light grey used in the grout for the tiles is repeated in the grey for the towels. The Red Cross medicine cabinet found in Hamilton ties in well with the colour scheme and makes it a fun addition to the bathroom.
