pale and interesting

Takapuna

The aim was to achieve a Scandinavian feel; a more simplistic way of living.

This home was originally built in the 1960s and was in dire need of modernising. Structural changes were made to improve the flow and functionality of the home. It was lacking good storage and wardrobe systems and desperately needed a recessed sliding door that could separate the main living areas from the rest of the home.

Kitchen

Once all the walls and layout were finished, it was time for a new colour scheme. The aim was to achieve a Scandinavian feel; a more simplistic way of living.

There are many large established trees on the property which meant the light levels were low, making the rooms seem dark. In order to lighten and brighten the home a fresh white, Resene Black White, was chosen for the base colour. Any hint of cream and it would make the place look dirty and dark.

Lounge

The outdoors are brought in with a feature wall in birch tree wallpaper and accessorising with indoor plants, bringing life and texture to the space. American blonded Oak, polished concrete, marble and copper with splashes of dusty peachy pinks, blues (Resene Conch) and black (Resene Nero) come together to soften the style. The colour theme continues throughout the home to give it a seamless flow and a sense of connection between the rooms.

With a tight budget set for the renovation, paint made the biggest transformation. Resene waterborne enamel in Resene White was also used to upcycle furniture, outdoor planter boxes and deer antlers to complete the look. This project shows you can still achieve transformation and great beauty on a small budget; you just need to be more creative and look to upcycle with paint rather than buy new.
