The client wanted it to be funky with a point of difference that would make it appealing to prospective tenants.
There was a very old bach on the property that was past renovating, in fact it needed demolishing! The client's brief was for a hardwearing, low budget, low maintenance purpose built rental property. The client wanted it to be funky with a point of difference that would make it appealing to prospective tenants. It needed to reflect its proximity to the beach and have a relaxed feel throughout a small space, at only two bedrooms and one bathroom.
The site dictated that the property needed to be two storey to maximise light as the section is down in a dip. The exterior iron cladding needed to have some areas with punch! The position of the site – being in the dip of the original sand dunes – it needed to feel light and bright without much winter sun – the bright colours list the spirits in the winter months. Resene colours provided just the punch needed!
The two areas are the front and rear entrance. These areas are two storey, so you get the feeling of height as your eye goes from the ground floor up to the roof. The colours in the front entrance on the walls draws your eye just to the Resene colours, not noticing the corrugated cladding.
Resene Lumbersider in Resene Tangerine provides a bold punch of colour at the front entrance, with a second bold punch of colour with Resene Allports at the back door area.
On the interior, walls are finished in Resene Zylone Sheen in Resene Half Parchment, with the same colour continued into the bathroom using Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen. Plywood is finished with Resene Aquaclear satin clear waterborne urethane for protection. Window frames and doors are painted in Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel in Resene White.
This is a building that does not take itself too seriously, while being small and functional.
