stylish urban development

Christchurch

The colours were chosen to appeal to a cross section of potential buyers as well as complement the existing surrounding homes and urban feel.

A quality three townhouse development in the suburb of Spreydon, Christchurch, these homes were cleverly designed to fit on a total 530 square metre corner site to ensure every bit of space was maximised. Each unit had the benefit of its own driveway and double garage with outdoor living to follow the sun.

The area of the development has a mix of early character homes and contemporary developments such as this one – the colours were chosen to appeal to a cross section of potential buyers as well as complement the existing surrounding homes and urban feel. The palette was a mix of warm greys with Resene Lumbersider low sheen waterborne paint in Resene Double Friar Grey and Resene Truffle being warm not cold, making the corner site look welcoming and stylish – not imposing. Soffits and trims were finished in Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel in Resene Eighth Truffle.

As the painting progressed the painters had many passers-by stop and ask what the colours were as they liked them so much.

FlaxPod joinery was used as a pop of depth on the garage doors and front entrance door of each unit – with Titania on window joinery. Once planting was completed the design came together well with smart Resene Woodsman Shadow Black on the fencing.

Being such a multi-dimensional corner site and high design with multiple angles of the roofline – the colours were chosen to blend with the character of the area and create a complimenting and stylish colour scheme to enhance rather than alienate the new development. The colours also needed to attract buyers from various stages of life and be able to stand the test of time – not only in the colours themselves but also with the products withstanding the elements. The angular mono-pitch design maximises the space within and looks equally stylish painted in the beautiful variable tone-on-tone warm greys with black contrast.

Resene Lumbersider on the Linear weatherboards and Hardies vertical panel board ensures the longevity of the paint pigments. Lumbersider was also used on the soffits as a continuation of the wall paint finish but in the lighter 1/8 Truffle colour. Lustacryl was used for any trims as required. Being an urban area it was decided the fencing would be in Woodsman Shadow Black to give contrast with the plantings and landscape design and also discourage graffiti.
