Keeping the character of the existing facade was a key part of the project. It was brought it back to life while adding new details to give it fresh vitality.
The Newtown House project is a century old South Wellington villa that required an interior and exterior facelift. This included bringing new life to the original rooms and spaces throughout the house, and also designing a brand new addition at the back to showcase the main open-plan living area. This design project touched every aspect of the house from spatial planning right through to the finer finishing details. Even before you arrive at the house itself the design work is already on display. The ornate steel gate is an elegant entrance that provides an insight to what lies within.
Keeping the character of the existing facade was a key part of the project. It was brought it back to life while adding new details to give it fresh vitality. Once closed, the front porch is now open to embrace the afternoon sun. The new addition at the back of the house was designed and built for seamless integration between the old and new parts of the villa. This was done in a way that enables anyone passing between the threshold will do so without really noticing the difference.
The paint colours were selected to work with the south facing wall which is on the boundary. The weatherboards are finished in Resene Sonyx 101 Gull Grey teamed with Resene Sea Fog and Resene CoolColour Grey Friars, which also lifted the character details of the entire facade. The windows, soffits and trims are finished in Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel.
It was important to keep the colour palette simple to let the character of the house come through.
This project was so special that it saw the birth of two babies in the duration of the project. These wonderful arrivals further amplified the family-like atmosphere on this project.
