Create statement vases with your favourite Resene colours.

Resene upcycling for good with Sarah Eberhardt - Project 26

Painted Glass Vases
Finished project

You will need: Old glass bottles and vases, Resene Lustacryl tinted to your favourite Resene colours.

Sarah used Resene Morning Glory, Resene Tranquil, Resene Fountain Blue, Resene Hippie Blue, Resene Snowy Mint and Resene Freelance. You could also use testpots of these colours if you only need a small amount.

Top tip: These vases may be used long term with dried flower arrangements or decorative twigs. Or you can fill with water and use with real flowers, but the paint finish isn’t designed for ongoing use in water.

This project is a quick and easy way to get vases that work well with your room colour and any other artwork and features you may have.

How to paint glass vases

Step one
Wash and thoroughly dry bottles and vases.
Step 2 Step two
Pour in a little paint and swirl it around until it coats the entire inside of the bottles and vases. Tip out excess and leave until thoroughly dry upside down and then up the right way.
Step 3 Step three
Use the vases as a decorative feature, or fill with flowers.

Upcycling for Good

You can find a huge range of treasures, from ornaments and picture frames, to furniture and toys at your local Salvation Army store that you can easily upcycle with a little Resene paint and some imagination.

"Our Family Stores are full of treasures generously donated by members of the public. We value these donations and try our hardest to re-purpose and sell as much as possible. We’re all about re-using and recycling, so teaming up with Resene on Upcycling for Good was a perfect match. Resene’s products and tips are a natural fit with our pre-loved furniture and accessories, which are usually great quality but could sometimes do with a lick of paint to ensure they fly off the shelves.

Each year, nationally, our stores save 16,000 tonnes from landfill. This initiative increases the value of the donated product, improves the range of goods for our customers, and furthers The Salvation Army’s mission and Resene’s community activity.” Gareth Marshall, The Salvation Army's National Family Store Manager.
