Weekend DIY with Mark Rayner - Project 24

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Bucket with clean warm water, Clean cloths, Filler, Paintbrushes Paint tray and roller, Putty knife or similar for filling, Resene dropcloth, Resene Quick Dry waterborne primer undercoat, Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Double Tea, Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Half Tea, Sandpaper

To get the look: Mark freshened up the ceiling with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Quarter Tea and repainted window and door frames with Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Half Tea.

How to paint a lounge feature wall

Step one
Lightly wipe any dust from the walls, skirting and ceiling with a cloth dampened in warm water. Allow to dry.

Step two
Fill any holes with filler and, once dry, lightly sand. Wipe off any sanding dust with a clean cloth.

Step three
Spot prime the filled holes with one coat of Resene Quick Dry and allow two hours to dry.

Step four
Paint the skirting boards and scotia and cut in around the window and door frames of the three main lounge walls with Resene Half Tea. Allow two hours to dry.

Step five
Using a roller, paint the three walls with Resene Half Tea. Again, allow two hours for paint to dry. Repeat steps four and five, applying a second coat of colour.

Step six
Paint the skirting boards and scotia of the feature wall with Resene Double Tea.

Step seven
Cut in down the edges of the feature wall, as shown, with Resene Double Tea. Allow two hours to dry.

Step eight
Using a roller, paint the feature wall with Resene Double Tea. Again, allow two hours for paint to dry. Repeat steps six, seven and eight, applying a second coat of colour.

Other ideas: For a stronger contrast try a combination of Resene Double Sisal and Resene Eighth Sisal.
