Weekend DIY with Mark Rayner - Project 43

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Clean cloth, drill with 10mm drill bit , good quality potting mix, paintbrush, potted colour, plastic watering jug, Resene paint stirrer, Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Dingley, Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer, sandpaper.

To get the look: Mark painted the table in Resene Enamacryl tinted to Resene Pelourous.

Other ideas: In the same way, transform a metal watering can into a simple planter by priming first with Resene Galvo One metal primer.

How to transform a watering jug to a plant pot

 
Step oneStep one
Carefully drill a 10mm drainage hole in the bottom of the watering jug.
Step twoStep two
Lightly sand the watering jug to 'key' the surface.
Step threeStep three
Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step fourStep four
Carefully stir the Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer.
Step 5Step five
Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to the watering jug and allow to dry.
Step sixStep six
Carefully stir the Resene Lustacryl.
Step eightStep seven
Apply two coats of Resene Lustacryl to the watering jug, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step nineStep eight
Plant up with your favourite potted colour.
