Painted raised bed

Add interest to a corner of the garden with this simple painted raised bed.

Weekend DIY with Mark Rayner - Project 69

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need:

  • 90mm exterior screws
  • Existing raised bed
  • Screwdriver
  • Spirit level
  • Paintbrushes
  • Potted colour (we used pink begonias)
  • Potting mix

To get the look: Mark painted the plant pots with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Peace.

Other ideas: For a darker green look paint the raised bed with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Parsley.

Step 1 Step one
Place one 800mm length of timber against the existing raised bed, as shown.
Step 2 Step two
Fix into position using 90mm screws.
Step 3 Step three
Place the 1200mm length of timber into position, as shown, and use the spirit level to ensure that it’s level. Check that the corner is at ninety degrees using the set square and then fix to the first length of timber with 90mm screws.
Step 4 Step four
Place the second 800mm length of timber into position, as shown. Once again use the spirit level to ensure that it’s level and check that the corner is at ninety degrees using the set square. Fix into place with 90mm screws.
Step 5 Step five
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the raised bed and allow to dry.
Step 6 Step six
Apply two coats of Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Paddock to the raised bed allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 7 Step seven
Fill the raised bed with potting mix, as shown.
Step 8 Step eight
Plant up the raised bed with potted colour and then water well.
