How to build glasshouse shelves

It’s easy to create some simple shelving for a glasshouse or conservatory with a little bit of help from Resene.

You will need

25cm ‘Long Tom’ terracotta pots (x4)
21cm terracotta pots (x2)
Paint stirrers and paintbrushes
Pencil
Resene Aquapel & Terracotta Sealer
Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Breeze

Resene Woodsman tinted to Resene Totem Pole
Sandpaper
Saw
Tape measure
Tongue-and-groove landscaping timber (approx 2.25m)

To get the look: Mark painted the glasshouse woodwork with Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Quarter Alabaster.

Other ideas: For a relaxed blue effect use a combination of Resene Woodsman tinted to Resene Pickled Bluewood and Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Quarter Dusted Blue.

Instructions

Step one
Measure, mark and cut the landscaping timber into three 750mm lengths and then smooth any rough edges with sandpaper.

Step two
Carefully stir the Resene Woodsman tinted to Resene Totem Pole.

Step three
Apply one coat of Resene Woodsman tinted to Resene Totem Pole to the pieces of landscaping timber and allow to dry.

Step four
Apply a second coat of Resene Woodsman tinted to Resene Totem Pole to the pieces of landscaping timber and allow to dry.

Step five
Seal the inside and outside of each terracotta pot using Resene Aquapel & Terracotta Sealer. Allow to dry.

Step six
Carefully stir the Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Breeze.

Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Breeze to the terracotta pots and allow to dry.

Step eight
Apply a second coat of Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Breeze to the terracotta pots. Once dry, place the lengths of timber onto the terracotta pots in tiers to form the shelving.
