It’s easy to transform a tired timber fence into a stylish feature with a little bit of help from Resene.

How to paint a fence

Weekend DIY with Mark Rayner - Project 76

Difficulty level:  Moderate

You will need

To get the look:  For added contrast, Mark painted the posts and top capping with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Alabaster.

Other ideas:  For a soft creamy effect paint the fence with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Pipi.

How to paint a tiered fence

 
Step 1 Step one
Mix one part Resene Moss & Mould Killer to five parts clean water.
Step 2 Step two
Wearing rubber gloves, generously apply the solution to the fence with a stiff-bristled brush and leave for 24 hours.
Step 3 Step three
Mix one part Resene Timber and Deck Wash to three parts clean water.
Step 4 Step four
Wearing rubber gloves, scrub the solution into the timber fence with a stiff-bristled brush and rinse off with clean water. Allow the fence to dry.
Step 5 Step five
Carefully stir the Resene Quick Dry with a large paint stirrer.
Step 6 Step six
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the fence and allow to dry.
Step 7 Step seven
Carefully stir the Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Helium with a large paint stirrer.
Step 8 Step eight
Apply two coats of Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Helium to the fence, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
