Go retro and turn a plain white lava lamp into a colourful feature using a bold Resene pink.

How to paint a lava lamp

Weekend DIY with Mark Rayner - Project 82

Difficulty level:  Moderate

You will need

To get the look:  Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Quarter Silver Chalice.

Other ideas:  For a bright red effect paint the lava lamp with Resene Enamacryl tinted to Resene Poppy.

How to paint a larva lamp

 
Step 1 Step one
Remove the base and top cap of the lava lamp.
Step 2 Step two
Carefully sand the outside of the base and top cap to ‘key’ the surface.
Step 3 Step three
Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Step 4 Step four
Carefully stir the Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer.
Step 5 Step five
Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to the outside of the base and top cap and allow to dry.
Step 6 Step six
Carefully stir the Resene Enamacryl tinted to Resene Smitten.
Step 7 Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Enamacryl tinted to Resene Smitten to the outside of the base and top cap and allow to dry.
Step 8 Step eight
Apply a second coat of Resene Enamacryl tinted to Resene Smitten to the outside of the base and top cap. Once dry, carefully reassemble the lava lamp.
