Resene Powder Room Awards 2021 Winner

The winner of the Resene Powder Room Awards 2021 revels in effortless glam and deep sultry blues

Mel Spooner and Clare Kitching

Homeowner Mel Spooner's decision to heed interior designer Clare Kitching's advice to embrace the lack of the light in her Remuera powder room and create a dark and moody space has turned out to be a winning move. The judges of the Resene Powder Room Awards 2021 loved the pair's choice of Resene Fast Forward and their bravery for putting it on all the walls, trims and even the ceiling. The beautiful deep slate blue, which has a moody undertone of green, is the perfect backdrop to the dado-line of peacock-coloured finger tiles and helps the brass details and walnut vanity pop in the space. "It's a lesson in how to make a small space feel glamorous," says editor Fiona Hawtin. "Who knew Hollywood glam could work so well in the loo?"
