1. Kubb

What you’ll need:

  • Resene testpots
  • Resene Aquaclear
  • Saw
  • Sandpaper
  • Fence post
  • Post head
  • Dowel
  • Paintbrush
  • Pencil
  • Masking tape
  • Ruler

Make a wooden kubb set

Instructions:

Buy a fence post, roughly 88x88mm thick. Measure out 11 blocks at 150mm in length and cut with a saw. Sand all rough edges with sandpaper. With washi masking tape, mask out a triangle on each side of each block. Paint 5 of the masked sections in Resene Morning Glory, and 5 in Resene Pink Lace and the final block in both Resene Santas Grey and Resene Alabaster. Glue a post head on top of the grey and white block with construction glue, to create the King block. For the batons, saw two pieces of 900x40mm dowel into six, 30cm sections. Sand the edges. Then tape off the middle section of each baton with washi masking tape and paint two coats of paint between the tape, 3 in Resene Morning Glory, and 3 in Resene Pink Lace. Peel off the tape. To make the corner posts divide a 900x20mm piece of dowel into 4 equal parts. Saw one end of each post into a point. Sand the edges and washi tape around all the posts, 5cm down from the flat end and paint above with two coats of Resene Jaguar. Once dry peel off the tape. Finally seal the entire set with Resene Aquaclear waterborne urethane varnish.

2. Noughts and crosses

What you'll need:

  • Resene testpots
  • Resene Aquaclear
  • Resene Concrete Clear
  • Pine slab
  • Sandpaper
  • Washi masking tape
  • Stones
  • Paintbrush
  • Pencil
  • Ruler

Make a wooden nought and crosses game

Instructions:

Cut a slab of pine to 23x23cm square and sand the edges. Divide the board equally into three parts both horizontally and vertically and rule a fine pencil line across at each point. With washi masking tape, tape along either side of the horizontal lines leaving a 10mm gap and paint two coats of Resene Jaguar into the gap. Peel off the tape and repeat with the vertical lines. Seal the board with Resene Aquaclear waterborne urethane varnish. Collect ten stones and paint 5 with two coats of Resene Morning Glory, and the other 5 in Resene Pink Lace. Once dry, paint a cross on the blue stones in Resene Alabaster and a nought on the pink stones in Resene Santas Grey. Finally, seal the rocks with Resene Concrete Clear.

3. Yardzee

What you'll need:

  • Resene testpots
  • Resene Aquaclear
  • Saw
  • Sandpaper
  • Fence post
  • Card
  • Masking tape
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Paintbrush

Make a yardzee game

Instructions:

With a saw, cut five cubes, 88mm long from a 88x88mm post. Sand with sandpaper. Cut a piece of card to 88x88mm and draw six large dice dots onto it with a 7th dot in the centre. Cut out the dots with a craft knife to create a stencil. With washi masking tape, mask out a triangle on three sides of each cube, so that two sides of each triangle touch. Paint the masked sections with Resene Morning Glory, Resene Pink Lace, Resene Santas Grey and Resene Alabaster. Once dry, stencil on the number dots on each side of your dice in Resene Jaguar. Seal the entire dice with Resene Aquaclear waterborne urethane varnish.
