1. Folded paper stars

What you’ll need:

  • Resene testpots
  • Double sided tape
  • Paintbrush
  • Paper
  • Glue

Folded paper stars

Instructions:

Take eight pieces of square paper and paint each piece with two coats of Resene paint. I have used Resene Roadster, Resene Cabaret, Resene Big Bang, Resene Sunshade, Resene Wild Thing, Resene Groovy, Resene Governor Bay and Resene Pukeko. When dry, fold each piece in half, creasing down the middle. Unfold back into a square, then fold the opposite way. Unfold again. Your square will now have a vertical and horizontal crease mark through the centre of the paper. Turn your paper over and fold each corner into the centre point until you have a smaller square. With the folds side facing upwards fold in two opposite corners into the centre point to create a diamond. Repeat eight times with each different coloured square until you have eight folded diamonds. Place a small piece of double-sided tape or craft glue down the middle crease of the back folded side of each diamond. Stick the first diamond on top of the second, meeting their points together at the top, lining the top diamonds right side with the centre crease of the bottom diamond. Repeat this step seven times until your star is complete. Stick to the wall or hang in the window and let the light shine through.

Matariki star cards

Instructions:

Fold A4 card in half. Paint one side in two coats of Resene Pukeko and the other side in two coats of a contrasting Resene paint. I've used Resene Roadster, Resene Big Bang and Resene Wild Thing. Make a star stencil, cutting out the stars with a craft knife. Stencil the stars on the front of each card. Open the card flat and cut out the stars with a craft knife. Still open, dab around each star with a dry brush in Resene Governor Bay. Repeat this step with Resene Proton. Finally, dip a toothbrush into Resene Proton and using your thumb, flick the bristles to splash stars all over the night sky.

What you'll need:

  • Resene testpots
  • Card
  • Paintbrush
  • Pencil
  • Craft knife
  • Scissors
  • Cotton
  • Sewing machine
  • Driftwood

Floating rainbow stars

Instructions:

Paint card in four Resene colours. I used Resene Roadster, Resene Big Bang, Resene Groovy and Resene Pukeko. Once dry, roughly paint over each with a lighter colour of Resene paint, leaving the base colour showing through. My top colours are Resene Cabaret, Resene Sunshade, Resene Wild Thing and Resene Governor Bay. Draw and cut out five stars from each card. Sew three columns of six stars together with a sewing machine. Leave a long piece of cotton thread free at the beginning to use for hanging later. Attach each column to a piece of driftwood with the excess cotton.

Hang your mobile against the wall or in the window to brighten your room.
