Resene Total Colour Universal Pastes

Universal Pastes (UPs) are a range of pigments dispersed into a water/glycol/dispersant systems designed for use with architectural coatings.

The dispersant system is optimised to the surface demands of each pigment. Systems in which UPs have been successfully used include: 100% acrylics styrene acrylics PVA copolymers pressure polymers long and (some) waterborne medium oil alkyds epoxies waterborne alkyds.

Testing will be required if intended to be used in cationically-stabilised systems. UPs are volumetrically calibrated and are designed to be used with typical tinter dispensing equipment. They are also designed for incorporation using typical paint shakers – additional shear may be required with very heavy-bodied coatings.

While UPs have been designed to achieve the broadest degree of compatibility, idiosyncrasies within any formulation can effect compatibility. We have long experience in recognising the causes of such problems and are able to help formulate around any issues that may arise.

Due to the high pigment levels used there is rarely a need to use UPs at more than 5-6% by volume. If higher levels are used (e.g. 10% by volume) some water sensitivity may be introduced into the film. Some loss of viscosity in associatively thickened systems may occur at higher usage levels.

Colour formulations data bases established with UPs can also be utilised with other Resene Total Colour Pastes.
