Mural Masterpieces - St Mathews

St Mathews mural artist Jil Sergeant

Location:
St Mathews, Cnr King & Eastbourne Streets, Hastings.

Team:
Jil of Aotearoa (Jil Sergeant) and Ruby Moon Dog.

Accessible to public:
Yes.

Mural theme:
Hopskotch Island.

Background to mural creation:
Hopskotch Island, the mural, was created to brighten the school and add fun learning activities for the children, enabling them to extend their imagination... from their faith, to native bush, to island, to ocean and beyond.

The children asked for a Christian theme including St Mathew himself plus native birds and children. In keeping with these requests, the background features a large window taken from an entrance of St Mathews Church itself, used in the daily functioning of the school.

A child peers out from the bush to discover footprints in the sand... there is someone else on the island... a footprint hopscotch surrounded by Pacific Ocean... the games begin.
