 Kowhai Special School mural

Location:
Kowhai Special School, Hastings Street, Hastings.

Team:
Jil of Aotearoa (Jil Sergeant) and Ruby Moon Dog.

Accessible to public:
Yes.

Mural theme:
The journey.

Background to mural creation:
All of us have a personal journey through life and some may appear to have more obstacles to overcome than others, such as the children of Kowhai Special School. There was a desperate need for colour and a story to distract the eye away from the institutional architecture. The mural is divided into four parts - turangawaewae, a growing journey, nurturing mentor and seeding ideas.
