Background to mural creation:
Te Hana village, situated approximately 1 hour north of Auckland, is home to a new mural depicting the Maori/European influence from early Maori times to the arrival of the Albertlanders, the naming of the village after the maiden princess Te Hana and the contribution of the Becroft family whose family saw the potential of the area as a prime location to establish their apple orchard, employing many villagers during the season.

The Albertland Dairy Co-Op stood as the major employer of the village, providing employment and housing to its workers. The inclusion of the factory is an acknowledgement to those and their families who worked and lived there.

The Kaipara Harbour was an important mode of transport in the earlier days. The Te Hana river and jetty was used extensively to bring in cream from neighbouring farms around the Kaipara, for swimming and for backloading apples from the orchard.

The native flora and fauna is a reminder of the beauty and splendour that surrounded our rivers and land and the need to establish links with Mother Nature to retain identity and uniqueness.
