Background to mural creation:
The Wakari School entrance now stands proud with a mural showcasing the school motto, school area, surrounding hillsides and local environment gracing the space. Not only does the mural provide a succinct insight into the school but it also gave students the opportunity to experience art on a large scale work, something most had never been involved in previously.

The idea of the mural was proposed by the school's Board of Trustees. Many ideas were considered and concept drawings were made incorporating the artwork of the children. Two children's artworks were selected to be in the final mural - the gecko and the kiwi. Once a blackline master had been made, the Resene EzyPaint software was used to trial different colour combinations. The blackline master was then transferred to undercoated plywood using an overhead projector followed by painting in black. The colours were then painted in and the outline repainted to sharpen up the image.

Many hands were involved in the development and painting of this mural that sets off the front entrance beautifully.
