| Personality plus As the room only receives morning sun, it was critical that the colour palette worked well with lighting. Barbara and Neil carefully combined the Resene Zylone Sheen tinted to Resene Lusty walls with Resene Half Spanish White ceiling and trim and a Danish oil finish on the fire mantle. A limited budget meant that painting over the existing pale wallpaper was the most efficient way of effecting the change, allowing the room to be transformed over a fortnight.
Originally planning to stay in the house for just a few years, they had planned to paint in very neutral colours to aid with the resale. After considerable thought, they discarded the neutral palette deciding it was important to use colours they could live with that also reflected their personalities. Resene Lusty has lent wonderful warmth to the dining room accentuated by finishing touches of candles and china. The colour combines well with a plaid tablecloth for casual meals or for more formal occasions it can be dressed up with white linen and candles. Christmas is extra special in this room, with garlands, gold candles, angels and cherubs fitting perfectly with the red backdrop. Thanks to Barbara and Neil Mackey of Invercargill.
