Art connection
Liz and Jeff had limited time before their first baby was due to get their decorating plans into action. In six months they changed the kitchen and dining around, added a new window and new kitchen from Incredible Kitchens, repainted the entire area in Resene Monarch complemented with new Resene Buttermilk in the lounge, changed the spare junk room into a nursery and repainted it in Resene Portage, moved the wardrobe into the room changing it to a romantic hideaway coated in Resene Mariner and changed the colour of the toilet to Resene Atlantis and added tiles as a finishing touch. All in all, an extremely busy six months!

Kitchen and Lounge

All five wall colours were used in paintings to provide connections between the rooms. A tulip picture painted in Resene Monarch was placed on a Resene Buttermilk finished wall in the open plan lounge area. A lamp and picture in the baby's room were painted in Resene Portage to complement the lime green Resene Atlantis brilliantly.

The idea behind the master bedroom was to make the room blue and white, necessitating the painting of lots of Rimu skirting and window framing - to the extent that they found it hard to know when to stop. In the end the wardrobe doors were spared from the paintbrush providing a natural Rimu accent.

The full refurbishment took approximately six months from start to finish. With a baby on the way, the project had a somewhat immoveable deadline! Liz and Jeff lived in the house for 6-7 months before starting anything, which gave them time to figure out what they wanted.

Liz likes the Monarch and Portage colours best; "Monarch looks stunning in the kitchen and is conducive to dining! Portage is a great colour for the baby's room, especially when you're not sure of the sex! It looks like baby blue with a hint of lavender."

With the painting safely complete, Liz and Jeff now have their hands full with an even more demanding project - parenthood.

Thanks to Liz and Jeff Tamblyn of Auckland.
