After major renovations were finished, the McKirdy family had no money to tackle the hallway, but they were desperate to rid themselves of the hideous patterned wallpaper.

They made new picture rails from MDF painted to look like Rimu using Resene Bull Shot and Resene Dark Rum.

The walls below the picture rails were tinted to Resene Pale Leaf, picking up on a colour in the curtains and lightening the full hallway. The curtain is very useful for keeping the heat in during the colder months and helps to darken the hallway in summer when the children go to bed before the night falls.

The chandeliers were a bargain at $2 each from the local tip recycling shop. They were spraypainted gold then finished in a verdigris effect with Resene testpots of Resene Blue Chill and Resene Burnham.

One day the hallway will get a proper makeover, but in the meantime the new look, light and calming, fits the bill well.
