Kitchen meets dining

Rhonda and Ben bought their Huntly do-up. A year later, having only ever redecorated one small bedroom, they decided to tackle the kitchen and dining room. Being the original 1979 kitchen, there were lots of cupboards but they were of little use. The small dining room was not used and when they had dinner guests the chef missed out because they were stuck in the separate kitchen. Their aim was therefore to create a beautiful, integrated kitchen/dining room that functions well when entertaining.

With a friend’s help they took to the destruction of the old kitchen with great enthusiasm. They stripped off all the old wallpaper, including two layers in the dining room. Next came the builder to remove the wall between the kitchen and dining room, followed by the plumber, the electricians and finally the plasterer. Rhonda then had a week to clean, seal, sand, clean and paint prior to the cabinets being installed.

The room is finished in Resene Quarter Sisal on walls, which works beautifully with the cabinets and the splash of red. The Resene Alabaster trims and white Resene Ceiling Paint on the ceiling give a crisp modern finish. Visitors now linger in the dining room and remark on how well the design and the colours work.
