The bedroom was just one part of a major refurbishment project that included lowering ceilings in two bedrooms, the lounge and kitchen, relocating the kitchen and bathroom, building two new walls, removing the lounge ceiling Kauri panels and installing new batons and paperfaced plasterboard. The refurbishment was planned before the contract for the home was even signed. Although Wendy says the physical changes seemed to take forever, the transformation was actually completed over a three month period. The completed lounge room and kitchen were finished in Resene Koromiko with a feature wall of Resene Fusion. Wendy selected the curtains first and then brought them into her local Resene ColorShop, picking out minor curtain colours for the feature wall and cupboards. Keen to DIY, Wendy (with the help of friends) built the walls and installed the paperfaced plasterboard ceiling, then called in a builder to cut the cornices at proper angles. This effort proved to be a major learning opportunity... Wendy created a wall with a 2 inch gap that required gibbing and had to make a 'wobbly' wall straight. Wendy's recommendation "Make sure you put the batons between the uprights (when building a wall the right way!)" Thanks to Wendy Breed and John Rogers of Auckland.
