Translation of terms:
Wharenui means Meeting House.
Wharepaku means bathroom/toilet.
Wharekai means kitchen/dining.
Waharoa means the entrance way at the front of the Marae Atea.
Atea means the large grass area directly in front of the Wharenui and between Waharoa and Wharenui.
Whakaruruhou and Manuhiri shelter means the shelter where visitors sit.
Tangata Whenua shelter or Pae Tapu is the shelter where the people of the land (Marae) sit.
Pae Pae shelter is the shelter where Tangata whenua or Manuhiri sit inside the Atea.
